World War II ending

Japanese Peace Delegation, ie-Shima

 

After atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Japanese government capitulated on August 15, 1945 ending WWII. As directed by American forces, the Japanese surrender delegation arrived in aircraft that were painted white with green crosses on ie-Shima, of the Ryukuyu Islands, August 19, 1945. Present that day was John Ellis, Dalton, MA who captured the delegation and their aircraft in these images prior to the signing the final surrender documents on the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945.
