Sikorsky CH-54 "Tarhe Sky Crane"

Sikorsky began design and construction of the Ch-54 "Sky Crane" for the U.S. Army in late 1959. After a crash of in April 1961, a successful prototype flew May 1962. Destined to be their largest heavy lift helicopter the Ch-54 the "Sky Crane" is powered by two Pratt & Whitney turbo shaft 4,500 hp engines with (6) rotor blades and can heave 6 tons. Its massive air frame is shaped in appearance like a "dragonfly" but, this allows it to straddle cargo containers, artillery, trucks, bulldozers, armored personnel carriers, and provide them rapid movement to remote locations. In Vietnam, it served in no less than 380 aircraft recovery operations. Only (95) Ch-54 were manufactured from 1964, ceasing production in 1972. Its maximum air speed is 125 mph and an operating range of 230 miles.
