Enlisting into the Army during the
Korean War, Gene started his Basic Training and Advance Infantry
Training at Fort Hood Texas in April 1951. Upon completion of
infantry training, he continued in Artillery and Armor with "Baker"
Battery, 68th Armor Field Artillery (AFA) until January 1952.
He was transferred into the Army of Occupation
"A" Battery, 109th Field Artillery Battalion, 28th
Infantry Division at Dillingen,Germany. Deploying into the field
for maneuvers with 105mm self-propelled Howitzers he spent many
nights billeted in pastures until he was discharged
as a Corporal on April 23,1953.
