Drafted in May
1953, John received basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Cook
and Bakery training at Fort Meade, Maryland and was shipped to
Bussac, France where he served with the 163rd Chemical Division.
Having played football at Pittsfield High, he continued to play
for the Army at Ft. Mead and with the "Bussac Broncos"
in France.
